In this mission, Roll (2005) shows that a SWOT examination will be useful to evaluate the spot of the organization in the general market. The brand AsiaTravel.com is glad for its single item that offers three administrations to its customers (AirTravel.com, n.d). This is an additional favorable position to this organization as this administration gives an uncommon to different administrations offered by different brands. Over the span of rivalry, AsiaTravel.com will stand apart from different organizations as its administrations are of a superior quality, great cost and adaptable to its customers. Roles that International Non-governmental Organizations Play in Global Essay

Jobs that International Non-administrative Organizations Play in Global Issues and the Role that Transnational Civil Society Play in Global Governance - Essay Example In any case, numerous global non-legislative associations supposedly emerged not many decades back that planned for moving in the direction of similar objectives on willful premise. They have consistently had a basic impact in such manner by taking an interest in plan setting, concocting of strategies and consolidation of rules, rules and administrative systems (Held and Hervey 96). In actuality, as of late, networks have started to depend on them vigorously for different social developments and battling for compassionate causes. With expanding desires, these bodies have additionally improved their attention on detailing answers for defeating worldwide deterrents and advancing worldwide administration. In any case, a significant number of these associations have worked less and publicized their endeavors more so as to make better notoriety, draw in progressively beneficent gifts and affirmation and limiting their stream to entitled recipients (Holmen and Jirstrom 442-443). All things considered, the vast majority of such substances have solid philosophies and don't advertise their exercises or ideas; rather they have their influence in settling worldwide issues and carrying harmony to world. A significant number of them guarantee to be given authority status and be legitimized so as to work all the more successfully towards their causes however thinking about the idea of their exercises, there isn't a lot of substance in the inquiry whether they should be approved or not. These activities need duty and real worry for abolishment of some social or natural shrewdness. These associations have endeavored to accomplish a large number of their objectives creating social advantages for masses yet at the same time need to show more devotion and work on their order, which becomes open picture of such endeavors. This article makes an end that Kaldor in her book brings up the issue whether new period of globalization can figure out how to reestablish realness at national and worldwide levels, while moderating savagery at transnational level through such worldwide foundations. As per her, the association between worldwide administration and organizations’ genuine specialists is muddled. Along these lines, the exertion put by such substances must be supported up with their definitive structures and should be planned for improving worldwide administration. It is fundamental to acknowledge that these ventures have consistently assumed noteworthy job in discovering answers for worldwide emergency. Thusly, the opportunity has already come and gone that non-administrative and transnational associations hold hands and work on building more grounded connections and coordination among them to make synergetic impacts and therefore resolve the referenced worldwide issues on changeless premise, mak ing this worldwide town a superior spot to live in.

The Band That Wouldn’t Die Essay Sample free essay sample

The ESPN 30 for 30 film called â€Å"The Band That Wouldn’t Die† is about the NFL Colts making a trip from Baltimore to Indianapolis. The move was done in the focal point of the dull and the association took everything to Indianapolis aside from the walking set outfits. which were at the cleaners. To thwart the association from taking the regalia. the set shrouded them in one of the set member’s family’s catacomb. The individuals of Baltimore were crushed when the Colts left their town and attempted to change over the NFL to pass on another crew to Baltimore. The Colts Marching Band kept on playing at half clasp shows and marches. At long last the NFL moved the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore. The Browns changed their name to the Ravens and the set in the long run had a crew again. This film was truly intriguing to me by and by in light of the fact that my full life is athleticss. Each since I was three-years of age I have been take separating in athleticss. here and there different athleticss at a clasp. At the point when I am separated of a crew. I am to the full dedicated to it. My committedness can be contrasted with the committedness of the Colts Marching Band to the crew each piece great as the fans to the football crew. Originating from a little secondary school. we were non ever the best at every sports. My lesser twelvemonth during volleyball we did non win a clump of games and the fans did non back up us by any stretch of the imagination. The Baltimore Colts fans completely bolstered the football crew no undertaking what the consequence of the game was. To them. the Colts crew was such an enormous bit of their life that it did non check on the off chance that they won or non. As an athlete. holding the help for such huge numbers of individuals makes each game considerably more of import. The members were non just playing for themselves any more. yet, rather for each and every individual who considered the Colts separated of the ir lives. I accept the help that the fans indicated the crew and the set is extraordinary. There was one fan that played the Colts Fight Song each clasp the crew got off the plane from an away game. was covered in a full Colts uniform. what's more, a portion of the members were his pallbearers. People groups have blended emotions about the responses that the fans had when the Baltimore Colts crew left Baltimore and moved to Indianapolis. Actually. I comprehend the devotion they had to their crew. be that as it may, being disturbed about them go forthing for 12 mature ages is rather most extreme. For what reason would they say they were so associated with this crew and non to something different, for example, political relations? The clasp time frame that they were vexed only shows how sincerely associated any fan can get to a crew. The crew was a tremendous bit of their life. In the film. a grown-up male said that at school the children would express the Pledge of Allegiance thus sing the Colts Fight Song ; the Colts were segment of their commonplace usual methodology. In add-on. the class feels that it was temporary how the crew left in the focal point of the dim. I trust it delineates how they were embarrassed about the situation and they realized it was erroneously so th ey left when individuals would non cognize. The move from Baltimore to Indianapolis is like LeBron James’s move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat. The two moves were extremely questionable and driven a clump of individuals mad and disturbed. We contemplated the possibility that perhaps the individuals of Baltimore were furious in light of the fact that without the NFL crew in the town. there were non the enormous hordes of individuals coming to Baltimore that would be go toing games and passing on cash into the town. The high spots in the film are extremely apparent. In my assumption there are two high spots. The first is the point at which the NFL chose to pass on the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore ; the individuals of Baltimore were so stirred in light of the fact that they in the end had a crew to supplant the Colts. Also. I imagine that when the owner of the Cleveland Ravens requested that the set president be the Raven’s functionary set on the television show was another high spot. In the wake of everything the set suffered over the 12 mature ages without a crew inevitably paid off and they had a spot again. The major lowlight was the point at which the Baltimore Colts pressed the entirety of their gear into voyaging trucks and left Baltimore in the focal point of the dim. One point of convergence of the film was the point at which the crew left Baltimore on the grounds that without the move none of different occasions in the film would hold occurred. Another point of convergence is th e point at which the Colts Marching Band kept on playing regardless of the way that they not, at this point had a NFL crew to name their ain. They battled for what they needed by playing in other NFL half clasp shows and marches. I appreciated tuning in to the meetings of individuals who had preeminent had encounters with the move and the wake. The Baltimore Colts making a trip to Indianapolis was a questionable occasion. The fans and the walking set battled for 12 mature ages to obtain another NFL crew to come to Baltimore. They were so committed to the crew and made them such a huge part of their lives. Our classification accepts that the move was transient for the benefit of the Colts association since they realized that what they were making a trip to make wasn't right to the individuals of Baltimore. We other than contrasted the move with LeBron James go forthing the Cavaliers and playing for the Heat. There are many intriguing variables this film covers. I accept this ESPN 30 for 30 film is a decent portrayal of genuine fan and set devotion. The set neer surrendered their clash of having a place with another football crew and they truly are â€Å"The Band That Wouldn’t Die. †

A Taste of the Real World

A Taste of the Real World When you are at school, the whole world seems to exist in its own little bubble. There were many times I remained oblivious to what was going on in the world, only able to scan the New York Times every couple of days, relying on WILG’s resident Course 17s to explain to me the riots/reforms/goings-on in the Middle East, a Japanese student group to hear about the earthquake in Japan or election signs popping up outside of Kresge. The world consists of problem sets, papers, alarm clocks, and in my case, rowing regattas. This summer is the first I’ve spent outside of academia. Although my past two summers were spent in a variety of locales (take advantage of MIT’s willingness to pay for you to travel) including England, Holland, Uganda, Boston and Mexico City, this is the first I feel I have really ventured into the real world, or what the real world may hold for me in the future. I am spending the summer in Bend, OR, a small city of 80,000, but the largest city in Central Oregon. It is traditionally the play place of skiers, campers, kayakers, rafters and those on the hunt for the perfect microbrew, but this summer it is my home while I am interning with Kittelson Associates. Kittelson is a transportation planning and engineering consulting firm based out of Portland, OR, but with eight other offices around the country. My real world summer started with a 1,000 mile drive from Colorado to Oregon. Central Oregon is pretty isolated and it was inevitable that I would need a car. But the car was in Colorado, I was in Cambridge, and my job was in Oregon. So that began my cross-country adventure. I’ve taken plenty of road trips in my time, but then tended to be on well-defined routes. To my grandparents in Utah or Arizona, depending on the season, or to regattas in the mid-West. My 1,000 mile adventure was my first solo road trip and my first time venturing into Idaho and Oregon. Other real world aspects of my summer involved finding a place to live. To Craigslist it was. After crossing off hundreds of ads looking for long-term roommates (I have places to be in the fall†¦) or listing cats as one of the roommates (that could make for an unpleasant summer), I found the house I am currently living in. It is strange to live in a house with a yard, and utilities, and your own kitchen. The most real world part of my summer might have to be my job though. It is strange not to be in school and to be working on real projects. That is what internships are for though. I have probably learned just as much in the past three weeks as I have at MIT, though the knowledge is very different. I have learned about working with clients and running meetings. I have learned about what it is like to work in an office, to bill your time, to interact with people at different levels within a company. And of course, I have learned about transportation. A question I get asked a lot is what exactly transportation engineering is. Transportation engineering involves looking at who and how many people are going where, what mode they are traveling by, and what route they are taking to get there. It looks at all forms of transport: cars, transit, bikes and pedestrians. It includes deciding on road striping and signage, to forecasting future travel demand (how many people will want to go here in the future). It is intrinsically intertwined with urban planning because people always need to go somewhere. I am interested in transportation because it involves people and something they use every day, but rarely take the time to think about. When transportation systems work, people don’t think about them, but when they don’t, they complain. A successful transport network enables cities to function and people to get from point A to point B. Even though I knew I was interested in transportation, I had never realized the extent to which systems must be engineered. I have been exposed to so many new things so far this summer, at work as well as outside. I’m looking forward to continuing to explore the field, and to get to know my adopted home for the summer.

MCAT Tutor Physics Translational Motion

Because MCAT physics often relies on calculation, this part of the physical sciences section of the test often produces an outsize level of anxiety in students. As an MCAT tutor and Physics tutor, I can help you overcome your anxiety around this section of the MCAT. Consider this the first in a series of indeterminate duration and frequency that will help demystify those concepts that might come in handy on the physics section during test day. Translational motion, for the sake of the MCAT, means that something is moving in at most two dimensions, without spinning. This motion can be broken down by describing velocity and acceleration in the X direction (left-right in a model on a page) or Y direction (up-down on a page). Velocity is calculated as distance divided by time, while acceleration is the change in velocity divided by the time it takes for that change to occur. For example: A car that travels sixty miles in one hour has a velocity of 60 miles/hour. A car that goes from zero to sixty miles per hour in 4 seconds has an acceleration of 15 miles/second2. (Note: the units line up! A speed [distance/time] divided by a time gives you units of distance/time2!) There are four formulas with respect to translational motion you should absolutely have memorized on test day. They are: d=vot+1/2a*t2 vo=vt+a*t d=1/2(vo+vt)*t vx2=vo2+2a*d (d=distance, vo=initial velocity, vt=final velocity, t=time, a=acceleration) It’s easier to understand these equations if you have some idea where they come from: 1.d=vot+1/2a*t2 The first equation breaks down how much distance an object covers into two components: velocity and acceleration. The distance due to initial velocity is simply velocity multiplied by time (a car going 30 miles per hour for 2 hours travels 60 miles [30 miles/hour x2 hours=60 miles]). The second component is acceleration. Because acceleration can add a lot of speed to an object really quickly (and more accurately, because that's the way the calculus works out), acceleration gets multiplied by time SQUARED, and divided by 2. 2. vo=vt+a*t This equation is the definition of acceleration! How fast an object is going is defined as how fast it was going at the beginning, plus the rate of acceleration multiplied by the time of acceleration. For example, a car travelling 10 meters per second, which then accelerates at a rate of 5 meters/second2 for 2 seconds will be travelling at 40 meters per secdon at the end of those 2 seconds! (30 meters/second + 5 miles/second2*2 seconds=40 meters/second!) 3. d=1/2(vo+vt)*t This equation comes in handy when acceleration is unknown. Suppose you know the starting and ending velocities of an object, and the time of motion. All this equation says is that the distance travelled is the AVERAGE of those two velocities multiplied by the time! For example: A car starts at 30 miles per hour and after 2 hours is travelling 60 miles per hour, with a constant acceleration. The average velocity (1/2[30+60]) is 45 miles per hour. Since 45 miles per hour times 2 hours is 90 miles, the car must have travelled 90 miles! In 95% of cases, the MCAT will assume constant acceleration. 4. vx2=vo2+2a*d This equation is very useful when time is not given, but acceleration and distance are not. It’s a little more difficult to understand intuitively, but if its helpful, it can be derived by solving equation (2) for the variable t, and then substituting that expression in for t in equation (3). Basically, if you know an object’s initial velocity, its acceleration, and distance travelled, you can calculate its final velocity! As you continue to do practice problems, you’ll notice that the VAST majority of MCAT translational physics problems are simply these 4 formulas applied with little variations. Next time, we’ll go over free fall... ;

The Triple Bottom Line Is A Global Authority On Corporate...

If we were to ask 5 different people the definition of sustainability, we would receive 5 different answers. However, the triple bottom line is a typical concept used often when talking about the subject of sustainability within a business. John Elkinston, a global authority on corporate social responsibility and sustainability coined the phrase for the first time in his book ‘Cannibals with Forks: The Triple Bottom Line of 21st Century Business’, in 1997. His argument was that the methods by which companies measure value should not only include financial bottom line, profit or loss but also a social, economic and environmental one as well (John Elkington, 1997). The concept has evolved into one that often has 3 overlapping circles which indicates that sustainability is typically defined as the place where economic success, social responsibility and environmental protection are all as significant as each other in business. In other words, the concept of the triple bottom line mainstreams the idea of sustainability as including people, planet and profit. It allows a business understand that a long term sustainability in an organisation requires more than just financial equity. It also helps to clarify that when businesses consider what sustainability means for them, it doesn’t mean that they had to give up the notion of financial success (Katz, RAK., Page, AP, 2013, Pages 852-855). Should Same Sex Marriage Be Legalized - 1372 Words

The â€Å"date which will live in infamy† just had a child! As of June 26, 2015, same-sex marriage was legalized in all 50 states of America by the Supreme Court from a ruling that barely passed by a 5-4 vote. Wait a minute. Back up. Do you mean to tell me that boys can marry boys now? That girls can marry girls? That it’s legal?! Wake up America! Do you even realize what you have done? You have given gay people the right to marry. To marry! Who in their right mind would give gay people that cherished right; or any kind of rights for that matter? Gay people are not like the rest of us; they do not deserve the freedoms that we normal people enjoy. Homosexuals are not human, and there is nothing conceivably human about what they do; they are†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"Whenever one violates the natural moral order established by God, one sins and offends God† (LGBT Community: Stop Gay Marriage). Same-sex marriage is a perfect example of this. So, it stands to reason that anyone who professes their love to God should be opposed to same-sex marriage. Furthermore, I have the perfect solution to rid our precious society of these vicious queers. We shall set ablaze every part of this great, green Earth in which these demons exist. Scorching-hot fire shall rain down upon every homosexual individual, and we shall watch as they burn; we shall watch as they are cleansed of their cursed impurities. We will deliver their punishment just as God unleashed his on the sinful cities that committed these heinous acts: â€Å"The Lord rained down sulphurous fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah. He overthrew those cities and the whole Plain, together with the inhabitants of the cities and the produce of the soil.† (Gen. 19:24-25) Of course, there is a fairly simpler alternative to abolishing the gays’ rights; one that is not quite as gruesome. Recall, if you will, the earlier decades of the 20th century, where â€Å"homosexuality was illegal in the United States under state sodomy laws and being gay was considered a mental illness by the American Psychiatric Association† (History of Gay Rights).Times were so straightforward back then. If someone was deemed gay, they would immediately be thrown into a psychiatric hospital, never to be seen or heard from

Essay about The Atomic Bomb Truman´s Choice to End World...

During WW2 Truman, the United States President at the time, was asked to make one the toughest decision in History. Choosing between dropping an atomic bomb or invading are both choices that will result in a lot of deaths. The huge diffrence between the two was who died wether it be the Japanese with the bomb, or the American soldiers with the invasion. Trumans decision was supposed to end the war sooner, hence reducing the amount of agony, deaths, stress or any other negative effects that could result in the continous war. Trumans decision on dropping the Atomic Bombs was an efficient course of action for the Americans, but was deffinantly not the most educated decision. If I had been placed in Trumans shoes and had to make this†¦show more content†¦Although the Japanese believed it was dishonarable to surrender and probably thought they made the best decision, I am sure they didnt think about the lives they were putting in danger. The civilians that died were not to blame, and shouldnt have had to endure the devastions of the war but sadly they did live on a military port. To my belief the two biggest issues that play a role in making and educated on wether to drop the bomb or not, would be time and money. The U.S. had already spent billions of dollars making these bombs, and couldnt afford to waste anymore money on the war. Sending troops to invade would have cost the U.S. alot of money that they didnt have, mind you they still were facing the great deppression. Not to mention the time that had gone into making these intricate atomic bombs, and the time that had already been wasted fighting the war. The war lasted about six years and could have been longer if Truman hadnt dropped the bomb because of the Japanese ethics and warfare perspective. War always results in destruction, debt, and deaths these outcomes are unevitable. But Trumans choice helped minamize the amount of deaths which is probably the most important catagory. The civilians that died, with out a doubt didnt deserve to die and their deaths will always be remembered and honored. Functionalist view of suicide free essay sample

Suicide is the intentional taking of ones own life and sociologists over the years have tried to put forward various explanations for why someone may do this. Within sociology there are many different views on suicide on the causes and explanations for it, these come from two main methodologies which are Positivists who believe that sociology is a science and they should aim to make causal laws on suicide rates, compared to Interpretivists who believe that they should look for meaning behind occurrences and certain individuals experiences before the suicide. Other perspectives also put in their views on what they believe to explain suicide for example, Realists. Item A references to Durkheim’s Structural Functionalist view on suicide, as stated Durkheim believes that due to sociology being a science with the topic of suicide it is very easy to make causal laws or as said in Item A ‘social facts’. Using quantitative data from official statistics, Durkheim analysed the suicide rates for various European countries and noted four regular patterns. The suicide rate for any given society remained more or less constant over time. When the rates of suicide did change, they coincided with other changes for example; they fell during war times but rose during economic depression or prosperity. Different societies had different suicide rates. Within a society, the rates varied constantly between social groups for example; Catholics had lower rates that Protestants. He identified the two social facts that determined suicide as social integration; the extent to which an individual feels a sense of belonging to a group and obligation to its members and moral integration; the extent to which an individual’s actions and desires are kept in check by society’s norms and values. Therefore, Durkheim concluded that these patterns were evidence that suicide rates couldn’t simply be the result of the motives of individuals. Due to the fact Durkheim believed that there were a number of causes behind suicide he form four types of suicide from a Positivist viewpoint. Egoistic suicide which is when individuals are not integrated well enough into society for example people who live alone compared to those who live with family. Secondly Altruistic suicide which is when individuals are felt to be too integrated into society causing suicide, for example members of the armed forces were said to have greater suicide rates than civilian personnel as they were too strongly integrated into a united body. Durkheim also put forward the idea of Anomic suicide, this is when the norms and values in society become unclear or confused in times of great social change and an individual is not taught to adapt to changes well enough. For example an unexpected death of a family member is sudden social change which can cause Anomic suicide. Lastly, he suggested Fatalistic suicide. Fatalism is the excessive amount of regulation which leads to one committing suicide. The interpretivist approach directly contrasts the positivist one and seeks to focus on the meanings of suicide for those involved. Douglas criticises Durkheims use of official statistics as they are not accurate and recommends qualitative studies to discover the real rate of suicide. The statistics are a result of a coroners label and thus it is not trustworthy in his view. This suggested that cases are decided on the basis of probability†. Douglas further seeks to find out the meaning of the suicide and criticises Durkheim for implying that the meaning is fixed. His view can be criticised as there is no reason to believe that a sociologist would be better at interpreting a dead persons meanings than a sociologist. Douglas is inconsistent at times, suggesting that sometimes official statistics area product of the coroner’s opinions and other times we can really discover the causes of suicide. This further implicates that question that revolves around a death that was it a suicide in the first place? There is no further information to go on other than the coroners. However, the medical knowledge was limited in the 19th century and autopsies were rare. Similarly, most countries lacked the sophisticated modern administrative system needed to collect and complete reliable statistics on a national basis. As a result, because the study lacked reliability, it becomes difficult to conclude that suicide is caused by social facts as Durkheim had suggested. Douglas also criticises Durkheim for aiming to categorize suicide in terms of their social causes. He argues that death should be classified according to its actual meaning and to do this, qualitative methods should be used to analyse the possible causes of death. That way, we can build up a classification of suicide meanings. As Douglas takes the interpretivist approach, the interpretivist explanations of suicide aim to study suicide in a non-scientific manner unlike the positivist explanations. They reject using statistics to look at why people commit suicide and prefer to try and understand the meanings behind why they would commit suicide which they believe isn’t coherent through statistics. According to Douglas, the decision to classify death as a suicide is taken by a coroner, and so the coroner’s verdict is based on interpretation. Nevertheless, the coroner’s decision could be subjective so therefore we cannot exactly argue that the coroner’s decision is fully accurate. He suggested that there are different types of suicide based on the meaning and reason for the death. For example, in some societies, Eskimos were expected to kill themselves in times of food shortages. Atkinson (1978) takes a different approach as he rejects the idea of coroners being able to objectively classify suicides because the facts are social constructions therefore criticizing the interpretivists approach. Although he accepts Douglas’ point that official statistics simply reflect the constructs or labels coroners give to deaths, he rejects the view that we cannot get behind these statistics and uncover the real rates or meaning of suicide. All we can study is how people make sense of their world which means studying how the living comes to classify a death as a suicide. He focuses on how coroners classify death and suggests that qualitative methods such as informal interviews and observations might be used. He states that there are four factors that affect a coroner’s decision to classify death as a suicide which are; the presence of a suicide note, the location and the circumstances, evidence of illnesses such as depression and some types of death such as hanging. Coroners regard information such as this as clues to whether the deceased took their own life or not. Nevertheless, Atkinson has also been criticised for just looking at how deaths are categorized. This is because he demonstrates how coroners just use their own interpretation to decide whether a death was a suicide. For example the use of a note is interpreted as a sign of suicide. As a result, it becomes to accept this explanation as all the coroners have is interpretations of the social world not the objective truth. Taylor (1980s) uses a different approach from the positivists and the interpretivists. He takes the realist approach to suicide which rejects the idea of a clear cut between a ‘genuine’ suicide and a ‘fake’ suicide. He states that most suicides fall in between and calls them ‘para-suicides’. Taylor argues that suicide statistics cannot be taken as valid. For example, in a study of 32 people hit by a train, half of the people were classed as suicide even though there was no conclusive evidence of suicidal intent. He found out that coroners saw factors such as history of mental illness as suicidal intents and this increased the likelihood of a suicide verdict. On the other hand, like positivists, Taylor believes we can explain suicide. He believes the real patterns and causes of suicide can be discovered although he does not base his explanations on statistics like the positivists. The realist approach aims to reveal underlying structures and causes which although are not are not directly observable, can still explain the observable evidence. Most theories focus on acts where the individual was intent on dying and that resulted in death. However, Taylor states that not all who attempt suicide are sure their actions will kill them. Nonetheless, Taylor’s theory is based on interpretations of the actor’s meanings and we do not know if they are correct especially in the cases of those suicides that are successful. Also, individual cases of suicides may involve a combination of motives and may be difficult to categorise. His theory however, is original and quite useful in explaining some observed patterns of suicide such as why attempts differ; both failed and successful attempts of suicide.

Bland free essay sample

Bland Characterization As human beings attempting to navigate our way through life we must choose a profession that will either benefit our skillet or meet our daily needs of performing what we love to do. Some of us are not so fortunate when seeking out our place of work, and select an occupation that begins to wither away over time and develops to be less important to us. We may be blindsided in the first place that this may be a passion closer to our hearts than we think or even choose it for our own greedy infinite; not the greater good of others. Even if our dexterity calls for the career, our heart may not. In the excerpt from You Cant Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe, character Judge Bland is depicted as a captivating corrupted evil-lifeless man, who is not interested in his line of work any longer but still maintains an odd ministering goodness. We will write a custom essay sample on Bland or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page These characteristics are portrayed through Wolfs diction and figurative analogies in the setting of Blanks work place, his appearance, and his actions. Wolfe utilizes Blanks workplace to characterize the ominous being, Rumford Bland. The author paints a picture of Blanks character by his surrounding, giving the reader insight into his mind and moral consciousness. An illustration of this is in the beginning of the excerpt when Wolfe establishes a setting for the reader to imagine what Bland is encircled by. The scenery is laden with and old obscure tone along with a worn wooden staircase accompanied by a hand rail, loose as an old tooth, smooth, be sweated by the touch of many black palm, led up to a dark hallway'(4-6). The atmosphere is established as gloomy and ancient, due to the use of past tense, which yields insight that the office may no longer be used. The simile of the rail being as loose as an old tooth expresses the connection between the stairs not being of any use anymore, Just as a tooth falling out when it is no longer needed, verifying again that the office is no longer in use, and that Bland is not concerned with the upkeep of his place of work; displaying that he doesnt care about his occupation. Another case that points out the extent that Bland disregards his profession is inscribed on the gazed glass of the office door, which bore the legend in black paint, partly flaked off. Blanks environment ND the fact that this name is partly flaked off directly connects to the degree of exactly how much he does not value his Job and also if taken figuratively relates to him being hard to read and worn with old age. The condition of his administrative center is in no way, shape, or form exhibiting that law is important to him. But it may have been at one time, reputable attorneys of the town have even admitted that they would have been Judge Blanks match in skill and ability had he chosen to use his talents in an honest way,(49-51) although he didnt take the honest route with his Job ND now his office is run down and vacant his line of work, or was in the past. This passage proves en is very skilled Bland is also depicted as being a sinister-corrupted individual through actions that he carries out, and those deeds portray him as dark and morally inoperative. For instance, there is contact where the reader can examine bland as a third party objective when he meets another individual, he greets them with the deadly weariness of his tone of voice, in the dead-white texture of his emaciated face, in his lank and lusters auburn hair, and, most of all, in his sunken mouth, around which here hovered constantly the ghost of a smile(56-61). A first acquaintance with someone is most important, and can tell you the majority about a person, which later may lead to a friendship of some sort. Surely though many would not be too keen on having a long lasting relationship or even a long conversation with someone like Judge Bland. All aspects of his being repel any other individual, and yet the reader can see that at one time he may have been happy by the description that there linger a ghost of a smile, one might even go as far to say that he took pride in his Job at en time. To understand the complexly of the character that is Bland we must also venture into the deep perception of Blanks secluded private life, which is presented vaguely when an object is introduced. It is positioned against the wall in the back room, and is a plush sofa [and] the room it was whispered, [is] Where Bland took his women(29-30). Bland is clearly morally corrupt, and the fact that the information was whispered confirms it was rumored and many new about his escapades, along with the many women he had his way with; which leads to the thought that if he as so evil what made these women okay with intercourse. Even if the women he slept with were paid one would think many would fear his corrupt soul and find work elsewhere. But it is said there was goodness in him that had never altogether died(86-87). So maybe Judge Bland captivated the women, and this fascination made it acceptable to do what they did with him. Blanks evil persona is also represented in his appearance and how others observed him. His dark soul can be seen at a glance and the profundity of his wickedness is understood when one looks upon him. Wolfe describes him as stained with evil(52) ND as many know a stain is not Just hovering on the surface of the material it is split on, it is much deeper and harder to remove; also becoming permanent over time. Blanks stained with a deep corrupt nature and though it may have not been his choice he is forever marked with the malevolent liquid that is depravity. Another example of Blanks evil nature portrayed through his self-exhibition is the fact he had to wear glasses. He began to wear them after he left his hometown, Libya Hill, and the thin, white face, with its shadowy smile, had been given a sinister enhancement by the dark spectacles which he then wore(68-70). Bland began to go blind and the illness was developing at a worsening pace. His Blindness was not due to cataracts or an eye abrasion, the ailment has been engendered in his eyes long ago. This may be and innuendo towards the many women that he slept with yielding a sexually transmitted disease that can result in blindness and it also can be somewhat ironic that he is in a profession having to do with law, because Justice is blind. The public already was well aware that en was having tort winks Witt many women, and it d not seem difficult to connect the dots that this was the reason his sight was deteriorating. Having a disease you cannot control is socially acceptable but receiving a disease from indecent UN-reputable actions causes people to have unattractive opinions about that person. Everyone was under the idea that he was corrupted, they all knew he was genuinely, unfathomably evil?and evil of this sort has a certain grandeur about it not unlike the grandeur of supreme goodness(83-85) It seems easy for the public to easily recall his goodness, the clean good white material under the dark stain of corruption, over his horrible deeds. Because, after all, people want to see the good in others: they want to see the good in Mr.. Bland though far off it may be. Although Judge Bland lost the importance of his occupation it cannot be denied that he was not skilled in the field he chose to go into. Along with the fact he could have reached a high level of respect and admiration if he decided to chose the route of honestly and goodness, that he clearly contained inside him. Instead of keeping true to being fair and righteous he ventured the path that was easier than that of honor and Justice; the course adorned with immorality. This dark path he took seeped deep into his soul, and caused the corrupt evil man he will die as.

Imagination in Heroics of Odysseus and Don Quixote Essay Example

Imagination in Heroics of Odysseus and Don Quixote Paper The most respected and venerated social group in ancient times and middle ages were that of the heroic warriors, knights, and kings. The view of what it is to be a hero is winning honor through combat and in a competitive situation. A hero would be someone who has great fighting skill and would even dare to risk death to have honor. The heroes were the people who would lead their armies or fellow knights into battle and won accolades for their courage displayed on the battlefield. On the other hand, the cowardly were subjected to strong prejudice. Their existence was considered a burden on the earth and they were ignored and ridiculed by everyone. This noble characteristic is evident in the Odyssey by Homer and Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. Both the authors draw different characteristics of what it means to be a hero in different ways. In the Odyssey, mere fighting skill does not necessarily mean that Odysseus was the hero. Rather, we see a man who is very shrewd and cunning. Although he is a brilliant fighter, he also shows restraint and mercy. On the other hand, Don Quixote was not a born hero like Odysseus. Both the heroes are from two very different times of the world but both of them tried to conquer the world with their heroic acts. Its not just their heroic acts that set them as two of the most renowned heroes of all time; its also their imagination or ability to conjure things that makes them stand out. But in comparison, imagination is the key which makes Don Quixote as the hero where imagination just adds a dimension to Odysseus character that rules him along with other traits. Heroes are renowned for their abundance of qualities that enable them to conquer any problem. Odysseus, from The Odyssey, is no different. He represents the heroic ideals of Ancient Greece, and is revered for his perseverance, intelligence, and leadership abilities. Greek heroes were the people who saved people; they were courageous wise and had fighting spirit. But apart from all, all the Greek heroes used to be favored by the divine gods. Odysseus holds almost all the heroic qualities. But he was not always favored by the good gods in his decade long voyage as stated by The Study Club (1922)- As a hero, Odysseus, it is true, ranks far below Achilles, but he is a much greater figure one who can endure without despair, even the disfavor of the gods and can by strength of will and the guidance of reason eventually triumph against unbelievable odds (p. 115). So, if it was not the help of the gods or if was not only his strength and power, what was it that helps him to survive such a long journey? It was his wit, it was his imaginary that saved in many occasion. It not only saved him, it also distinguishes him from many other Greek heroes who are remembered for their muscles, not for their brains. Odysseus departure from Troy is the beginning of his long heroic adventure. What of those years of rough adventure, weathered under Zeus? (Book 1)- This quote depicts not only the rough times Odysseus will have on his journey, but also reveals that Zeus will watch over him. Odysseus will cross the threshold and go to places from where no one has returned before. On the island of the Cyclops Odysseus exhibits his abilities, as he developed a plan to escape the Cyclops cave. Odysseus has this plan and utilizes it. He and most of his men escape the cave unharmed. This symbolized the escape from the belly of the whale (Anthony, 1972). Throughout his journey, Odysseus receives some help from supernatural powers, which aid him to fulfill the heroic voyage. Aeolus, the god of winds Presents Odysseus with a bag, filled with all the bad winds. Although this was a great help to Odysseus, it did not last long. Odysseus also had help from other gods and goddesses. But it was his own skill that helped Odysseus to pass the obstacles one after another. He becomes the first to ever pass the island of the sirens unharmed. He does not carry away with the lovely seductive songs of the sirens. The men filled their ears with wax and only Odysseus, who was tied to the mast, was able to hear the tempting songs. As they passed the island, Odysseus screamed to be free, but the men would not free him. It was a temptation that Odysseus keeps in check through foresight and imagination. Similarly, when Odysseus and his crews are trapped in the cage of Cyclops, he again uses his intelligence. He realizes that he cannot defeat the one-eyed monster with his sword and muscle. Rather, he opted to wait for the opportune moment and outwit Cyclops. When asked his name, Odysseus told Polyphemus that his name is Nobody. Odysseus feeds the Cyclops some wine, which made him fall asleep. Then Odysseus and his crew took a large burning timber and blinded the Cyclops. After hearing his cries, Polyphemuss neighbors, other one-eyed monsters come running to the cave. Polyphemus yelled to his neighbors through the stone door, Nobody is killing me! Nobody has blinded me! (Book IX) The neighbors dismissed his cries and return to their own caves. Here, at first when Odyssey disguises himself as Nobody, it seems there I no real significance in this. But finally it comes out as the trick that makes Polyphemus stranded and isolated when other Cyclops thinks that he is just too drunk and went insane. Similar treatment is received by Circe, the sorceress, as Odysseus knew that she is too strong for him and if he does not counter her with his intelligence, he will turn into pigs along with his crews. Therefore, he again waits for the opportune moment and when it is there, he puts his sword on her throat and makes his way out. Again when he returns to Ithaca, he does not just go back to home. He is very much aware that things are not the same as he left them. There are suitors around here and many of them are ready to kill him and throw him out of his throne. Instead, Odysseus disguised himself as a beggar and starts to gain reliable companions. Finally, when Penelope arranges the contest, suspecting the beggar is none but his long lost husband; Odysseus again proves he is superior to the suitors and kills all of them one by one. And it does not end here since he realized he and his family is still not out of danger as the companions of the dead suitors will look for revenge and finally he triumphs over them as well. In any other story of epic, the hero would have not taken all this trouble of hide and seek play. They would have rather come straight to confront their opponents and beat them after a fierce battle and triumph. It is the wit, intelligence and the vision that distinguish him from many other epic heroes. In contrast to Odysseus, Don Quixote is not just another epic hero. He is not a youthful and strong knight or warrior who goes to a battle, fight fiercely and conquers them eventually. He is rather a man who has passed the prime of youth and now living in his middle ages. He has never gone to any battle or knight-errant, neither does he has any prior experience to fight. In Don Quixotes time, reading was the only entertainment in the home. Most people werent very well educated anyway so some could not tell the difference between pretend and reality. That is probably why people who read the bible took it so literally. The clergymen were more educated and knew how to take advantage of the people. People were so afraid of what it had to say; they did whatever it said so they would be doing well (Madariaga, 1928). Don Quixote did the same thing as those religious people. He believes exactly what he read. Unfortunately for him, those books were outdated; there were no knights in armor anymore. He convinced a less educated man to come with him on his travels. His squire is not as educated but he has good common sense. So, Don Quixote is actually the story of how an ordinary man becomes a hero even with his silly and foolish deeds. In medieval times, knights roamed the countryside of Europe, rescuing people and vanquishing evil lords and enchanters. This may sound absurd to many people in this time, but what if a person read so many books about these so-called knight-errants that he could not determine the real from that which was read? Such is the case in The Adventures of Don Quixote which takes place sometime in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Don Quixote is not really a don at all. He is a wealthy, intelligent farmer who read too many books about knight-errantry and goes crazy. He convinced a simple-minded peasant named Sancho to become his squire, promising him wealth and a high spot in society. Together they go for many adventures, both are convinced that they are doing brave and honorable acts of chivalry, when they are only two fools running around the countryside. Interesting part about Don Quixote is that his entire adventure is based upon his imagination. He lives in his own utopia where he sees everything from a great knights perspective, though the knights are long gone. He imagines himself as one of the great knights and vows to take the mission to rescue mankind. In his one of his adventures, he comes across a man named Juan Haldudo lashing his shepherd boy and thinks Haldudo is an evil knight. He challenges the farmer and makes him swear by the code of chivalry that he will pay all the accrued wages of the boy. Let all the world stand still if all the world does not confess that there is not in all the world a fairer damsel than the Empress of La Mancha, the peerless Dulcinea of El Toboso this is his announcement when he see a group of merchants and assumes that they are knights. The merchants think Don is crazed and he receives a beating from them. Again when Don comes across the giant windmills, he imagines them into evil giants. Despite his squires caution that they are harmless wind machines, he charges and one of the circling vanes knocks him out. When he realizes that these are windmills, he starts to believe that a magician must have turned the giants into windmills to thwart his heroic attack. The entire adventure of Don Quixote is based upon his imagination. He just does not seem to see things straight. Once he even attacks a funeral procession escorting a litter draped in black. He believes the litter holds the body of a wounded or slain knight who was the victim of villainy. He thinks the inns as castle and the giant turns out to be the innkeepers goatskins of wine. After many other eventful adventures, all which are something extravagant according to Dons illusion, finally he is beaten by a real knight and draws an end to his knight-errand. But he switches from one form to another- he now wants to be a shepherd and wants to live his life under the sky. He begins to think a shepherds life is a life that has appeal. Although the adventures of Don Quixote seem very stupid in nature outwardly, there are several factors which bear great value. Through his imaginary adventures, Don Quixote upholds the moral idealism. Even though he is mad, he realizes that there are eternal, unchanging values that remain valid in a modern, ever-changing world (Bell, 1947). Interestingly, throughout the novel, the character of Don Quixote remains a puzzle. Sometimes even it appears that behind his every mission, he has a vision. Liberty, Sancho, my friend, is one of the most precious gifts that Heaven has bestowed on mankind or Sanity may be madness but the maddest of all is to see life as it is and not as it should- this quotes suggests that may be he is deliberately trying to be a fool. Through his imagination, maybe he is trying to point out the lack of justice that prevails in the society. If we look at the use of imagination in both Odysseus and Don Quixote, we will actually find Don Quixote is the one who is dominated by his imagination a lot more than Odysseus. In fact Don Quixotes idea of realism seems to be in zero level in comparison to that of Odysseus. Odysseus is a seasoned hero who fought in numerous battles and is knowledgeable enough to know when to use the power of sword and when to use the might of his intelligence. In contrast, Don Quixote seems to be content with his own vision. He sees the world as he reads them in the book. To him the world is still threatened by the evil people and wicked knights and he must be acted as a savior. In fact, the imagination ruled Don Quixote so much that Sobre (1976) stated Don Quixote is a perfect example of created reality. The character Don Quixote is real, and he lives in a real world, but everything that he sees is exaggerated in his mind. He engages in so many adventures that he is convinced that he is doing brave and honorable acts of chivalry, when he is only a silly man running around the countryside. Odysseus on the other hand is very unlike Don Quixote and many heroes who seem invincible. They have no life, no feelings, no weaknesses. Odysseus feels pain, frustration and grief but at the same time his family and friends and those relationships and emotions are what make him like every person. He is brave and strong person, who is also very human. And above all its his ability to read a situation and use of his imaginative power to sort the best out of it. A large number of his adventures show his cool and calm nature and clear vision that makes him unlike most of the Greek epic heroes. So, we find here two different characters with two different attitudes to the world. Where Odysseus seems very practical and goal oriented, Don Quixote on the contrary is very much like a child and often seems very bizarre as a hero due to his uncanny behaviors. However, its the use of the imagination that actually draws the line of distinction between their heroics. Odysseus lives and conquers in a world where the daemons live along with the evil people and he fights them all with his might and wit. But Don Quixote has actually created a world which does not really exist in reality; it exists only in his dreams.

Free Essays on Media Bias

Introduction It is common knowledge that the media play a foremost part in America. Eighty million Americans count on television networks to get news. They make up their minds and create their own opinion in accordance with what they watch and see and, to a smaller extent, read. Americans are aware of the huge function the media play in their lives. 43% percent admit that TV networks play the most significant part in determining which issues and events are considered significant . The media’s role in political affairs is even more important: They obviously have the power to make a candidate likeable or†¦ repulsive. News media networks affect the public’s interest in politics by showing the people what they want them to see. Even if there are many issues in a campaign, the media will focus on the one they consider to be the most important, and other issues can be completely ignored. Given that general public cannot make clued-up decisions on public policy issues if the news on which they rely is deformed, it is obviously essential that TV news broadcasts and other media be just and impartial. However, there has always been much discussion about the so-called â€Å"media bias†. We will focus our study on polls and diverse data in order to discern why there is such a common idea, and if the media are actually politically biased. I. How the media take part in an election: 1- The media elite issue The graph below reveals that journalists and broadcasters have a serious tendency to lean on the left. This poll was conducted on 240 journalists working at the most influential national newspapers and networks, including the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, U.S. News, Newsweek as well as CBS, ABC, PBS and NBC. What strikes us the most is that 81 percent (at least) of the journalists polled voted for the Democratic candidate in every election from 1964 to 1976. More precisely, in the ... Financial Statement Forecasting Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Financial Statement Forecasting - Essay Example There is no denying the fact that;" investors and share holders around the world base their decisions on financial and economic forecasts (Olley, 2006, 1)." Thus a professional, pragmatic and propitious financial statement forecast will fortify its plans of rapid future growth by exploiting novel business opportunities, undergoing product diversification and resorting to aggressive acquisition. The success of a company depends to a great extent on the reliability of its financial statement forecasting. To ensure this, it is a must that," the assumptions made in the previous Corporation Budgeting cycle, but not limited to, estimated sales volume, capital requirements, staffing resource requirements, customer demands and vendor contracts" are all meticulously verified and updated to reveal all the possible changes and the most recent data available (Harvard, 2008). All the possible changes projected or encumbered should be balanced by an appropriate action by the management. Microsoft Excel is the most common tool used during forecasting. Financial forecast has to be customized to suit the external and internal realities of a business and has to be flexible to accommodate future changes. The most common methodologies used for forecasting are Current Year Budget, Straight Line, Year to Date Actual plus Estimated Future Spending and Prior Year Data.Though the data required to achieve a financial forecast is basically the same as what is required to accomplish the budgeting process, forecasting differs from the budgeting process in the sense that a budget is a statement prepared a year in advance that gives guidelines for spending and acts as a yardstick for analyzing the business performance of a company, forecasting involves extrapolating the current performance of a company to estimate the future income, expenditure and growth prospects..References Financial Forecasting (2008). Isolation and identification of unknown bacteria Lab Report

Isolation and identification of unknown bacteria - Lab Report Example We used standardized procedures in the process of cultivation of bacetia. We received pure culture of unknown organism. Using Bunsen burner the loop was sterilized by heating the entire wire into the flame of the burner until it glows with bright red or orange color and afterwards the loop was left to cool. The culture of uknown bacteria was held in inoculation tube in a form of liquid culture and the inoulation tube was sealed with sterile cap.. We maintained aseptic conditions during the handling of the culture. During the whole process the caps and the tubes were held in hand were not allowed to be contaminated by contacting the table or other source of environmental bacteria. The openings of the inoculation tube was sterilized by burning with the Bunsen burner twice in order to avoid contamination with environmental bacteria. With the cooled loop, carfully not to touch the sides of the tube we collected one loop of material and after that the edges of the tube were again burned with flame from the Bunsen burner and the caps were put . The loop was then inoculated on two separate TSA plates. The lid of the plates was opened with free hand and the material was seeded with gentle strokes of the loop using T streak method in order to allow optimal contidions for growth. The lid was then put back on the plates and the loop was again sterilized by burning until glowing bright red on the Bunsen burner. ... erilized by heating the entire wire into the flame of the burner until it glows with bright red or orange color and afterwards the loop was left to cool. Electronic Project Management System Project in Construction

Electronic Project Management System Project in Construction Introduction Construction is one of the most complicated industries in the world. It engages in many kind of industries and processes to complete the building project. Therefore, construction also needs to use project management methodology to manage the project. Nowadays, information technology is a very useful tool to help the business. Construction also use much information technology to helping in the building processes, therefore, a construction company would like to implement a electronic project management system to manage the building processes. In this electronic project management system project, it would like to choose the PRINCE2 instead of PMP for the project management methodology. We would like to compare those methodologies and suggest the most suitable one for the similar case in construction industry. We have many project management methodologies in the world but it is difficult to choose one for special project. We will use PRINCE 2 to compare with PMP in several areas. Prince 2 â€Å"PRINCE† is a project management methodology and it is stand for PRojects IN Controlled Environments (PRINCE). PRINCE2 is the second version of this methodology and it is a registered trademark of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) of UK. PRINCE2 is widely in use by UK government and other company in UK. PRINCE2 is a structure project management methodology for different kind of project, not only for Information Technology. Pmbok â€Å"PMBOK† also is a project management methodology and it is stand for â€Å"Project Management Book of Knowledge†. PMBOK is a guide of best practice in a project and it is published by PMI (Project Management Institute). PMBOK is widely in use in the world but not only in US or North America. PMP (Project Management Professional) is a well known certificate for the PMBOK. You could use PMBOK standard in different kind of industry that runs a project. Project Life-cycle based versus Knowledge Area based In PRINCE2, it has clearly defined the project life-cycle in eight main processes as follows, l Starting up a project (SU) l Directing a project (DU) l Initiating a project (IP) l Managing stage boundaries (SB) l Controlling a stage (CS) l Managing product delivery (MP) l Closing a project (CP) l Planning (PL) Each of the main process has its sub-process and totally in 45 processes with their own documentation. Compare with PRINCE2, PMBOK has discuss in nine functional based knowledge area rather than use project life-cycle, l Project integration management l Project scope management l Project time management l Project cost management l Project quality management l Project human resource management l Project communications management l Project risk management l Project procurement management Each of the knowledge area has its sub-process and totally in 42 processes. It seems PRINCE2 has well defined the project life-cycle than PMBOK. PRINCE2 has defined easy to follow procedure, checklists and hints for project manager to use through the project life-cycle. PMBOK mainly discuss the skills, tools and techniques in the nine knowledge areas. In PRINCE2, the project life-cycle is not starting from the needs or feasibility study. In PRINCE2 manual stated â€Å"Most of what in PRINCE2 terms will be stages will be divisions of ‘implementation in the product life span.† Therefore, PRINCE2 is more likely to be implementation methodology than project management methodology. PMBOK recognize any projects needs the assessment and feasibility study before the project start. It is more likely is a project management methodology. Documentation In PRINCE2, it has heavily on documentation. PRINCE2 has described thirty-six standard management documents such as plans and reports that are involved through the whole methodology. Acceptance Criteria, â€Å"A definition in measurable terms of the characteristics required of the final product(s)for it/them to the customers and staff who will be affected.† It seems to be provided by the project management team and written during the project starting and it should be a mandatory documentation in the project. Communication Plan, â€Å"To define all parties interested in the project. It contains a description of the means and frequency of communication between them and the project team.† It is a document stated all interest parties, what information is required, how often is the communication and the method. It is to be provided by the project management team and written during the project starting for future as a communication roadmap. End Project Report, â€Å"This report is the Project Managers report to the Project Board (who may pass it on to corporate or programme management) on how well the project has performed against its Project Initiation Document.† This report should provided by the Project Manager and written during the Closing a Project stage. Also, it is a mandatory document in the project. Issue Log, It is use to record all issues raised in the project those need to take attention. It may include any concern in the project or any requirement out of the project scope the need of the change of scope. â€Å"Project issues may be raised by anyone associated with the project at any time.† In PRINCE2, the issue log is a mandatory document in the controlling project stage. It should has access control and kept in a safe place Lesson Learned Log, â€Å"To be a repository of any lesson learned during the project that can be usefully applied to other projects.† It should be written at the closing stage of the project and it may be a mandatory document to act as a â€Å"Learning Library† for future use. Project Mandate, â€Å"The information in the Mandate is used to trigger Starting up a Project(SU). It should contain sufficient information to identify at least the prospective Executive of the Project Board and indicate the subject matter of the project.† It should come from the Project committee that can approve the cost, the project and any resources. It also is a mandatory document in the project starting stage. Except the â€Å"Lesson Learned Log†, those documents are not discussed and mentioned in the PMBOK. It seems PMBOK is discussing on the project management skills and techniques more than the documentation. Schedule And Planning In PRINCE2, it is more focus on the project goal or objective to be delivered and the quality. It is using some common techniques or tools such as Gantt Chart, Pert Chart or any other method in the Planning (PL) stage. PRINCE2 introduce several steps in the planning stage. Firstly, create a Product Breakdown Structure (PBS). Secondly, write down the Product Description. Finally, create the Product Flow Diagram. PRINCE2 has provided examples and defined clearly in each step what is the project manager should do. It has provided an easy to follow instruction for the project manager to manage the project. In PMBOK, planning is a general skill in the project management. It also applied to each project phase and through the whole project life-cycle. Also, PMBOK will use Gantt Chart or Pert Chart for the project planning and tracking. However, project planning in PMBOK always discussing in different knowledge areas and it seems across and integrated through the whole project. Control In Project Management In PRINCE2, according to the materials, control is talking about the decision making by the project management team. It is targeting to produce the project goal, fulfill the defined project quality condition, meet the project schedule, cost and resources planned and to deal with any crisis it may rose in the project life-cycle to complete the project. As mention at above, it is the responsibility of the project manager. PRINCE2 has defined very clearly between â€Å"Tolerance†, â€Å"Contingency† and â€Å"Change Control†. â€Å"Tolerance is the permissible deviation from a plan without bringing the deviation to the attention of the next higher authority.† Tolerance for the project manager is needed because there has no any project will run as hundred percent as planned in the world even the project manager with a good plan. â€Å"Contingency, in PRINCE2 terms, is a budget including the time and money set aside to carry out a contingency plan which will only be invoked in a linked risk actually occurs.† Contingency plan is needed in the project because the any project has some critical accident issue to cause the project fail. â€Å"Change Control, the control of change means the assessment of the impact of potential changes, their importance, their cost and a judgmental decision by management on whether to include them or not.†[14] In any project, change is inevitable but it need to under control and approved to ensure the project could meet the schedule and budget. IN PMBOK, control is discussed in several knowledge areas. As change control, it is discuss in â€Å"Project Integrated Management† Like the schedule and planning, control is always to be discuss in the several knowledge areas through the whole project life-cycle. Conclusion As a project management methodology, PRINCE2 and PMBOK have very different approaches for project management. It is because both methodologies serve in different areas. Therefore, they cannot directly to do the comparison. PMBOK, it demonstrates the best method for teaching the project management skills and techniques in each knowledge area, but it did not provide an effective guidance or examples for running a project. Compare with PMBOK, PRINCE2 use a project life-cycle base method to demonstrate its methodology is difficult to judge in each knowledge area. After the study of PRINCE2, its most likely to serve as customer vs supplier situation. In the PRINCE2s book, it has been pointing out the project will be running for a customer instead of a self manage situation. That means PRINCE2 is basically use to running a outsource project by the vendor more than running a project by the project sponsor. As describe in the book of PRINCE2, it also has an assumption the project is running for a customer with only one vendor. In the reality of construction management, it always deals with multiple vendors and the coordination or responsibilities are more complex than the example in the book. Compare with PRINCE2, PMBOK is more likely to run the project by the project sponsor rather than outsource to external vendor. It is because the book of PMBOK is written from the point of view of the project sponsor rather than the external vendor. Furthermore, PMBOK has discuss much in human resource management, financial management or procurement management more than PRINCE2. As this papers topic, it is talking about a construction company would like to implement an electronic project management system for construction project. Of course, construction company always in running a construction project. Therefore, project management skills and techniques are their professional and specialty. Although, construction company is a specialist in project management, they are only professional in building project but not software implementation. Since, construction industry is a complicated industry and almost all building project is outsource and subletting to their subcontractor. Therefore, the electronic project management system also needs to deal with different kind of supplier and processes. In the case, the heavily and robust documentation system of PRINCE2 may help to write down all necessary information about the software project. Moreover, outsource and subletting already has best practice in construction industry, it is an easy task for the construction company instead of running the project by themselves. So, PRINCE2 is most prefer to use as the software project management methodology in the construction industry. Bibliography 2005.Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2.2005 ed.
